Male Menopause

What is The Male Menopause? CJA Balance Investigates

male menopause, Testosterone Replacement Therapy treatments, CJA Balance, UKWe’ve all heard about the menopause for women, but do men go through a male menopause?   In short, the answer is yes – the male menopause (also known as the andropause) is when men see a drop in testosterone levels as they age.

Men going through the male menopause experience symptoms similar to those women endure such as low sex drive/libido, low energy
poor sleep, sexual dysfunction, low mood, sweating/ hot flushes, joint pain and reduced bone density.

Testosterone level drops slightly in men every year after the age of 30 while the levels of the sex hormone binding globulin (SHBG) increase every year. This gradual decrease in testosterone levels can lead to menopause-like symptoms.

What is Testosterone?

Testosterone is a hugely important hormone that is needed for so many aspects of a man’s health.

It plays a key role in the development of male reproductive tissues such as the testes and the prostate, as well as stimulating the development of male characteristics such as increased bone mass, muscle mass and the growth of body hair.

Present in much greater levels in men than women, testosterone helps to regulate sex drive, or libido. It is important for sexual and reproductive development, fertility and also aids cognitive function, mental health and energy levels.

If you feel you may be experiencing the male menopause, CJA Balance offers a blood test to check your testosterone levels, with follow up consultations with a GMC-registered doctor who can prescribe the right balance of medications to alleviate your symptoms.  Find out more about the blood test and treatment options.

What If My Testosterone Levels Are Fine But I Still Feel Menopausal?

The easiest and quickest way to find out whether low testosterone is causing your symptoms is to order a blood test.  If we discover that your testosterone levels are fine, then it is time to explore other reasons for your male menopausal symptoms.

Some men experience depression, anxiety and low mood – which can affect your energy levels and libido – due to work stress, home life worries or because they have concerns about getting older. There are also certain medical conditions that can lead to symptons.  These include, but are not limited to, diabetes, obesity, thyroid issues as well as side effects from certain medication.

Treatments For Low Testosterone Levels

Testosterone Replacement Therapy is available at CJA Balance as a gel or injection.  Each individual is different so the medical team at CJA Balance are here to advise you on the right medication for you.

We will help you make an informed decision about which TRT treatment to choose.  Before you embark on any treatment options, it is important you find out whether you have low testosterone, what those levels are, and whether there are any other underlying issues that may be causing your symptoms.

At CJA Balance, we offer simple blood tests that can be carried out at home to test your testosterone levels.  We also offer a consultation with a UK doctor who is registered with the General Medical Council, and who can prescribe the appropriate medications, with follow up blood tests and consultations.

If you notice some of the symptoms of low testosterone, please consider buying our at-home blood test kit to test your testosterone levels.  CJA Balance we will send the blood test kit directly through the post and will give you comprehensive test results.

One of the options for men with low testosterone is to take Testosterone Replacement Therapy, also available through CJA Balance.  Many doctors have a dangerous lack of knowledge when it comes to Testosterone Replacement Therapy, referring to old and outdated studies.  There is evidence that TRT is beneficial for heart health and can reduce the risk of diabetes.
